Ballad of the Penguin King is a project I started back in my sophomore year of college, when I was still an Undergraduate studying Architecture. I wrote the poem way back then, and then my Senior year I tried to animate it. I've learned a lot since then, and I've since decided when - not if- I revisit the Penguin King's universe, I will find a better story to tell than the Ballad.
The Ballad is nearly 8 minutes long and way too much for one man to animate. Besides, it's much cooler spoken than animated. I don't know. If I get postive feedback of the two minutes or so of animation I have here, I might consider going back and finishing it, though that almost certainly means starting from scratch :).
The Ballad is an "anti-tragedy" that tells the story of Egil Roaldsson, the Penguin King, and his rise, fall, and the aftermath of his rule. It is told through the eyes of Evangeline Egilsdatter, his adopted daughter.
Evangeline is voice by my good friend Sarah Berry, a talented musician and surprisingly good voice actor. She also did the music. The Penguin King himself is voiced by Tyrone Nichols, who is also awesome. The other characters are variously myself and Chad Wellington, as well as random extras.
There WILL be a finished Penguin King cartoon one day, just maybe not this one.
